any word on who the tenants in the new units will be?

I wonder when we'll see the inside of it anyway. I'm using the train this week, but have a flight to LHR booked the week after...

All the Hoarding's around the gate 6 area now removed, saw it this morning when we went a casual walk to kill time! Entrance to boots now facing down the terminal towards gate 7. There is a cafe nero and an 'Eat' restaurant which is similar apparently to the one landside? Gate 6 is hiding away in a little pokey hole in the corner, huge space in the middle that was left empty, dunno if this will be filled with seating or if another unit similar to 'The Gatherings' take away island will go there.

Departure lounge looking even better now, much more spacious. The space in the middle looks to have been filled with seats and a seating area for cafe nero.

Interesting, certainly should be a priority, there must now be more remotes stands than there was originally before the SE pier was built! The big question now is will they install international arrivals facilties and switch the terminal? They missed a golden opportunity when it was first built, it would be a big project but very much worthwhile at the same time. With more FR expansion soon no doubt, and still the hope of a Middle Eastern link sooner rather than later, I can only hope that BAA seriously consider making this a proper job and switching the terminal at the same time instead of missing a trick like they normally do.

The Feb 2010 Consultative Committee minutes are up on the website now:

Interesting bit on expansion of the south east pier. BAA are definitely in the market for extending it. The bit about the travelator at ground floor level for international arrivals sounds good too.

Presumably they'll need to move the international bagage reclaim and customs/imigration to the area currently occupied by domestic bagage reclaim? Or will they extend the terminal adjacent to that area?

Good news for the sushi lovers out there :) :

RESTAURANT chain YO! Sushi is recruiting staff, from managerial roles to team members, as it prepares to open five new restaurants during 2010.

The first three new launches will be in Milton Keynes, at Festival Hall in London and at Edinburgh Airport. Two more will follow later in the year.

The new area around gate 6 is lovely. The only big problem now for me is the area beyond gate four towards the gate 1 area which feels very neglected compared to the areas past gate 6 (especially the area around the BA Galleries lounge and the escalators to domestic baggage claim which is very nice). Hopefully if, as is planned, the SE pier is changed to the international area this area could get a wee look!

WHSmith and Dixons now moved into their new shops, Dixons especially looks to be a big improvement with most of the 'old' part of the lounge now open to pax again. New security area due to open 30th June last I heard.

Edinburgh Airport unveils £40m expansion

Postby Porrohman on Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:54 am

A multi-million pound expansion of Edinburgh Airport will be officially opened later.

The £40m departure lounge and security hall will support up to 150 retail jobs and is part of a 10-year revamp plan.

It will also allow the airport to expand from handling nine million passengers every year to an expected 13 million by 2013.

Believe work is to start on the new additional taxiway link to the SE apron in the next week or two?

Operationally, this is a positive move, and not before time. It will help to reduce taxiing delays going to/from the SE pier stands. I'm surprised they didn't do this work while the apron work was going on for stands 28-34. I'd imagine that the work will be more disruptive now than if it had been carried out back then (and probably more expensive too).

The terminal layout maps on the BAA website have not yet been updated to reflect the recent changes. See; http://www.edinburghairport.com/assets/ ... al_Map.pdf
