According to the BBC;

Dozens of soldiers from The Royal Regiment of Scotland are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

The soldiers from C Company are due to leave on Wednesday from Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh for Helmand Province, in the south of the country.

Looking at the latest chart on the Met Office web site for 18:00Z today ( http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/va ... 741319.png ), it looks they would have to route to the west of the Shetlands then a little further north before turning right towards Trondheim (Norway), then keep going East until a position about 65N 65E before turning south over all the 'stans and Iran to Doha. Maybe when Qatar Airways see much spare capacity Edinburgh airport has, and how quickly and efficiently they can get everyone through the terminal, they'll be inclined to add a regular scheduled flight here
