According to the BA website;
BA0001 LCY SNN 28 JAN Arrival 14:00 28 JAN 14:05 Actual
BA0001 SNN JFK 28 JAN Arrival 17:15 28 JAN 17:05 Actual

BA0002 JFK LCY 28 JAN Departure 18:40 28 JAN 18:38 Actual
BA0002 JFK LCY 29 JAN Arrival 07:15 29 JAN 06:45 Estimated

So, it doesn't look like it's BA. Maybe the flight number has a misprint? Perhaps a private flight rather than BA?

According to the BBC;

Dozens of soldiers from The Royal Regiment of Scotland are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

The soldiers from C Company are due to leave on Wednesday from Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh for Helmand Province, in the south of the country.

Source; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edi ... 557490.stm

I can't see anything listed on the departures board though.

From BAA arrivals / departures;
Arrivals; 19:30 QR045 DOHA
Departures; 21:00 QR046 DOHA SCHEDULED

Looking at the latest chart on the Met Office web site for 18:00Z today ( http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/va ... 741319.png ), it looks they would have to route to the west of the Shetlands then a little further north before turning right towards Trondheim (Norway), then keep going East until a position about 65N 65E before turning south over all the 'stans and Iran to Doha. See; http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=EDI-LSI-TR ... =nm&SU=mph Total still-air distance is about 4100nm plus a bit more for any sub-optimal routings. It's probably do-able; it's about an 1,100nm detour compared with a direct routing; http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=EDI-DOH&DU=nm&SU=mph

Maybe when Qatar Airways see much spare capacity Edinburgh airport has, and how quickly and efficiently they can get everyone through the terminal, they'll be inclined to add a regular scheduled flight here :roll:
